Visit the Central Post Office, see the exterior of Notre-Dame Cathedral, and explore Cho Lon, the city’s Chinatown, with a stop at Jade Emperor Pagoda. The next day, head to the Cu Chi Tunnels to learn about their role during the Vietnam War before continuing to the coastal city of Vung Tau.

Coastal views and time to unwind. Vung Tau offers a change of pace, with sandy beaches and views across the sea. Explore the city’s landmarks, including Bao Dai’s Summer Palace and the Jesus Christ Statue, perched above the coastline. Morning, meet our guide at your hotel and transfer about 75 km Northwest of downtown Ho Chi Minh City to visit the famous Cu Chi Tunnels, which were once a major underground hideout and resistance base of Viet Cong forces during the two wars against the French and the Americans. The tunnels, entirely hand-dug, formed a highly intricate network of interlinked multilevel passageways at times stretched as far as the Cambodian border and totaling over 120 km in length. Its complexity was beyond imagination containing meeting rooms, kitchens, wells, clinics, schools, depots, trenches and emergency exits all aimed for guerrilla warfare. The tunnels were deep and strong enough to withstand destructive bombings and self-contained enough to outlast prolonged sieges. Lunch at a local restaurant.

Vietnam

The country has a rather variable climate, stretching 2,000 km from north to south and with approximately three-quarters of the country being mountainous. Tropical, hot, and humid. Monsoons divide the year into two seasons: a hot and rainy one from May to October/November, and a cool and dry one from December to April. There is a risk of typhoons between September and October, when the summer monsoon transitions into the winter monsoon. In the central part of the country, the monsoon season begins in July and ends in January.

Vietnam uses the Vietnamese Dong (VND) for most daily transactions. While some places may accept USD or EUR, it’s not very common, so it’s always more convenient to pay in local currency.

Cash is still widely used, especially in local markets and small shops while credit cards are accepted at hotels, malls, and more upscale restaurants, sometimes with a small surcharge.

ATMs are easy to find in cities and tourist areas, so withdrawing cash is generally simple and convenient.
