Hanoi from the back of a vintage jeep. Your journey opens in the capital with a ride through backstreets, hidden alleys and local markets, passing the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Tran Quoc Pagoda and the Temple of Literature before ending with heirloom dishes at a hidden-gem cafe. From there, Ninh Binh slows the pace: cycle village lanes around Tam Coc, visit Bich Dong Pagoda and Thai Vi Temple, drift through the Trang An grottoes and climb Mua Mountain for a panorama over the karst valley.

A night on the bay, then lanterns and a bridge in the clouds. Sail Ha Long Bay past Dinh Huong and Ga Choi islets, explore Sung Sot Cave and swim at Titov Beach before sleeping on board. Fly south to Hoi An for basket boats in the Cam Thanh coconut jungle, the Japanese Covered Bridge and lantern-lit streets, plus a full day at Ba Na Hills and the Golden Bridge, with a free day in the old town in between.

Tropical Phu Quoc and one last city chapter. Fly to Phu Quoc for the Hon Thom cable car, Aquatopia Water Park and Mediterranean-style Sunset Town, with two full days left free for the beach. The finale is Ho Chi Minh City: crawl the Cu Chi Tunnels, ride a cyclo through the busy streets and wander Ben Thanh Market before departure.

Monsoons divide the year into two seasons: a hot and rainy one from May to October/November, and a cool and dry one from December to April. There is a risk of typhoons between September and October, when the summer monsoon transitions into the winter monsoon. In the central part of the country, the monsoon season begins in July and ends in January.

Vietnam uses the Vietnamese Dong (VND) for most daily transactions. While some places may accept USD or EUR, it’s not very common, so it’s always more convenient to pay in local currency.

Cash is still widely used, especially in local markets and small shops while credit cards are accepted at hotels, malls, and more upscale restaurants, sometimes with a small surcharge.

ATMs are easy to find in cities and tourist areas, so withdrawing cash is generally simple and convenient.
